Erin Sax is an award-winning director of documentaries, commercials, branded content and unscripted television. Her visual style is a unique blend of gritty and lush, with storytelling that pushes the edge of tension and hope.
Sax is known for delving into the stories of people who live their truths, even when it is not popular or pretty, and connecting them to a wider public. She specializes in portrayals of characters that invite audiences to reconsider their assumptions of what lies inside others. Past themes include gay ex-cons, fishmongers, battle rappers, mobsters, the line between religious devotion and insanity, as well as Michelin star chefs, influencer lifestyle profiles, astronauts, eco-tourism and the re-animation of Harry Caray. She has won awards as both a director and executive producer including the Grand Prize from Italy’s World Religion Film Festival for the documentary Jerusalem Syndrome; YouTube's Ad Of the Year: Ad That Goes Straight to the Heart for Budweiser's 2016 World Series spot, Harry Caray's Last Call; and prizes from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art and The San Francisco Art Institute. Sax is from Los Angeles, CA and lives in New York, NY. |
